Okay. Sounds great! How do I get started?

Our minimum advertising buy is $5000, but $1000 per month campaigns can be had by prepaying in full. Our CPM rates range from $10-14 with a $45 CPM for our daily email. CPM stands for "cost per thousand impressions," or cost per the number of times your ad is viewed by our readers. For example, if you have a budget of $1000 and you apply a $10 CPM, your ad would receive 100,000 impressions. For more help, view the CPM Calculator.

So, what kind of advertising can I buy?

We offer a variety of placements on our site and in our emails:

1. Banners:

You can purchase banner ads in standard creative sizes (160×600 & 300×250) which run on all 5 of our sites. You can choose how and where you'd like to target your campaign.

  • Site-Specific: You can choose to focus on any one of our five sites: Apartment Therapy (home design), ReNest (green living), Unplggd (home tech), The Kitchn (food and cooking), and Ohdeedoh (children's design).
  • Geo-Targeting: With geo-targeting you can select to reach customers only in select metro areas.
  • Rates: $10 CPM for below the fold, $12 CPM for above the fold, $2 incremental CPM for geo-targeting

2. Email:

Our daily Apartment Therapy email and our weekly Kitchn email are exclusive offerings. You will be the only advertiser featured in the email. The daily Apartment Therapy email is written by our founder and editor-in-chief, Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan. It's a personal inside look at design today and goes out to our most savvy readers, including magazine editors, realtors, architects, and designers. Currently, our Apartment Therapy Email has 30,000 subscribers. The weekly Kitchn email is written by Sara Gillingham-Ryan, founding editor of The Kitchn, and has about 20,000 subscribers.

  • Rates: $45 CPM

Hmm. That sounds interesting. Do you have any other exclusive advertising opportunities?

We run weekly Thursday Giveaways and have seasonal Signature Events and Promotions, such as the Small Cool Contest and the Colors Contest. Our Thursday Giveaways are a chance to introduce a product (minimum value of $500) and collect email opt-ins from the readers. A typical Giveaway post is seen by 30,000—50,000 readers a week and gets an average of 3,000 entries. You can also choose to be a sponsor for one of our Signature Events or Giveaways. These events are BIG and extremely popular with our readers. Sponsorship packages are in the $25,000+ range.

So, what is a typical buy on Apartment Therapy?

We don't really have a typical buy. Our advertisers spend anywhere from the prepay minimum of $1,000 to many times that each month.

What if I just want my store to be reviewed? Can I contact the editors?

Our editors write sale, event posts and store reviews on a regular basis. You can certainly contact them via our Marketplace if you'd like to request having your store reviewed. Our editors work independently from our sales team, though (we're not even in the same room! Must. Have. Space), so it's best to save your advertising questions for our advertising team.

What else should I be thinking about?

If you're thinking about advertising with us, here are a few things to consider before reaching out to us:

  1. What is your budget? Our prepay minimum buy is $1,000 per month, but whether you have $1,000 to spend or $100,000, we'll find the best fit for you on our site.
  2. What dates are you thinking of? Do you have a special event coming up you'd like to advertise, a product launch to promote, or a holiday sale?
  3. What is your creative? We prefer that you have your creative ready when you execute your buy. Don't forget great pictures and a call to action will do wonders for your click-through-rate! We can recommend some designers if you need help. Creative Specs.
  4. What is the frequency you're hoping for? Every good advertiser knows that frequency creates preference. Readers need to see your message 2-5 times before your message "gets through." That said, we recommend a minimum share of 20% for most campaigns and even a higher share if you plan on advertising over a shorter period of time, or if you're making a big announcement.
